An Interview With Steve Krug: Everyone should do usability testing

Book Cover

In a previous post I reviewed Steve Krug’s latest book, but recently I had the opportunity to interview Steve about the book. It’s a fun interview, and I think you’ll enjoy hearing Steve talk about:

  • who he wrote the book for (not an obvious answer as I discovered)
  • which part of the book he thinks makes the biggest contribution to the field of usability
  • what his “parlor trick” is that he performs when he gives speeches
  • the process by which he came up with the “scripts” for usability testing that are in the book
  • how to locate the free video that anyone can watch whether or not they buy the book

and much much more.

The interview is 20 minutes — you can download it from the Neuro Web Design podcast link in iTunes, or click to listen to the interview with Steve.

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed talking to Steve.

And here’s a link (affiliate) if you’d like to learn more about the book:

    Hi Susan,

I subscribed to your podcast feed for the Steve Krug interview. The downloaded file was only about two minutes in length. I’ll try again tonight just in case there was a problem at my end. But you might want to test download it yourself in case there’s a problem with the posted file.

    Regards, Mal.

    Malcolm,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’m investigating to see what the issue is. I’ll re-post when I get it fixed and leave another comment here.

Hi Susan, please just insert a link to the audiofile in your post. I would love to listen to it and came here twice for it until I understood that I probably have to subscribe to some stuff before… I really belive that the best usabilty of just getting to the good content you create should always be the priority, not to force subscribers.
    Regards

Malcom — I found he problem and corrected the problem with the file at the itunes site, so try again.

Tobias — great idea.. I actually didn’t know how to do that in WordPress so I found out (was quite easy as it turned out), and have now posted the entire interview here on the page. Thanks for asking so I would figure out how to do that. Now I can do it with all my audio and video files!

    Hi Susan,
Excellent interview and I agree that everyone should be doing usability testing. I plan to write about it for the eLearning community I work with. Usability testing is not one of the best practices for online learning and it should be Thanks!
